FAQ: Supporting Your Child’s Journey
My child was just diagnosed. I feel overwhelmed. Where do I start?
It is completely normal to feel this way. The first step is a Functional Assessment at our clinic. We will also pair you with a "Mentor Parent" from our community—someone who has walked this path and can offer personal guidance.
At what age can my child start at Parents’ Own Clinic?
We believe in "Early Identification, Early Intervention." Our Home-Based Program starts as early as 6 months. Our formal Specialized Preschool accepts children from age 3.
Can my child ever transition to a regular "mainstream" school?
Yes! Our primary goal is to provide the foundational language skills (spoken or signed) that allow children to succeed in any environment. Many of our students transition to mainstream schools by Grade 1 or Grade 6 with our "Bridge Support" program.
Do you teach Indian Sign Language (ISL) or Oral/Verbal communication?
We follow a Total Communication philosophy. This means we tailor the method to the child. Some children thrive with ISL, others with Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT), and many use a combination of both. We respect every family's choice for their child’s "first language."
Are there government schemes available to help with the cost of devices?
Yes. We assist eligible families in applying for the ADIP Scheme (Government of India), which can provide free or subsidized hearing aids and cochlear implant surgeries for children from lower-income backgrounds.
What is the teacher-to-student ratio in the classroom?
To ensure every child gets the visual attention they need, we maintain a strict 1:6 ratio. This allows our Teachers of the Deaf (ToD) to monitor each student's comprehension in real-time.
